Artek A330 Pendant Lamp

The polished brass shade of the A330 Pendant Light was first used in the teachers' canteen at the University of Jyväskylä, Finland in 1954. Composed of three parts, it provides the diffuse light which is synonomous with Alvar Aalto’s designs. The small perforations around the rim of Pendant Light A330 reduce glare and create beautiful reflections.

Alvar Aalto was born in 1898 in Kuortane, Finland. He is considered one of the greatest designers and architects of the modern age, many of his products being as relevant today as they were at conception. During his long career he designed buildings all over the world, creating furniture and lighting within this process.

Design by Alvar Aalto - 1954

Artek was founded in Helsinki in 1935 by four young idealists: Alvar and Aino Aalto, Maire Gullichsen, and Nils-Gustav Hahl. Their goal was “to sell furniture and to promote a modern culture of living by exhibitions and other educational means.”

In keeping with the radical spirit of its founders, Artek today remains an innovative player in the world of modern design, developing new products at the intersection of design, architecture, and art.

The Artek collection consists of furniture, lighting, and accessories designed by Finnish masters and leading international designers. It stands for clarity, functionality, and poetic simplicity.
