Artek A338 "Bilberry" Pendant Lamp

Originally designed for the house of the renowned French gallerist Louis Carré, the Maison Carré, the A338 Bilberry Pendant Lamp is especially suitable as a spotlight. Light is essentially directed through its side opening, with some illumination also emanating from the small perforations at the top of the shade. The unique painted steel shade has a shapely, almost bubble-like appearance to enhance contemporary and mid-century interiors alike.

Alvar Aalto was born in 1898 in Kuortane, Finland. He is considered one of the greatest designers and architects of the modern age, many of his products being as relevant today as they were at conception. During his long career he designed buildings all over the world, creating furniture and lighting within this process.

Design by Alvar Aalto - 1950

Artek was founded in Helsinki in 1935 by four young idealists: Alvar and Aino Aalto, Maire Gullichsen, and Nils-Gustav Hahl. Their goal was “to sell furniture and to promote a modern culture of living by exhibitions and other educational means.”

In keeping with the radical spirit of its founders, Artek today remains an innovative player in the world of modern design, developing new products at the intersection of design, architecture, and art.

The Artek collection consists of furniture, lighting, and accessories designed by Finnish masters and leading international designers. It stands for clarity, functionality, and poetic simplicity.
