Gubi A1965 Pendant Lamp

Designed for the Finland House in New York to showcase Finnish design, the 1965 Pendant Lamp has a perforated metal shade. Light escapes through the perforations and soft direct light is emitted downwards through the frosted glass diffuser. The A1965 lamp has a lift mechanism which raises and lowers the lamp to different heights.

Industrial designer Paavo Tynell was a pioneer of Finnish lighting design. At the forefront of the production of early electrical lighting fixtures in Finland, he collaborated with designer Alvar Aalto in the 1930’s. Tynell’s designs were derivative of a traditional aesthetic with a modern sensibility.
