Gubi Model 597 Floor Lamp

Released in 1961, the Model 597 by Gianfranco Frattini is the lamp that launched him as a lighting designer. Its unique and playful form perfectly encapsulates Frattini’s extraordinary approach to the aesthetics of light. Light is emitted through the fringing to provide a soft illumination.

Gianfranco Frattini earned an architecture degree from the Politecnico di Milano in 1953, joining the cohort of polymath Milanese architects and designers who would drive the post-war renaissance of Italian design. Always wide-ranging, Frattini’s projects varied from furniture for the likes of Cassina and Bernini to cookware for Lagostina.
