Northern Butterfly Perforated Wall Lamp

Butterfly is a small wall lamp that was designed in 1964 for Arnold Wiigs Fabrikker and later produced by Høvik Lys of Norway. Considered a Norwegian design treasure, Northern re-launched the Butterfly Lamp in 2008. The delicate structure of the lamp is created from perforated steel which adds both texture and playful shadow and light.

Sven Dysthe initially trained as a cabinetmaker before leaving Norway for London where he received a degree in industrial design from the Royal College of Art. His work is internationally recognised and displayed at leading museums including the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, the National Museum in Stockholm and the National Museum in Oslo.
